GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  THE CAPT JOY BRIGHT HANCOCK LEADERSHIP AWARDS
HONOR THE VISIONARY LEADERSHIP OF A NAVAL OFFICER WHOSE IDEALS AND
DEDICATION LED TO THE INTEGRATION OF WOMEN INTO THE REGULAR NAVY.
ESTABLISHED IN 1987, THESE AWARDS ARE PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO
RECOGNIZE THE INSPIRATIONAL LEADERSHIP OF A NAVY OR MARINE CORPS
OFFICER AND SENIOR ENLISTED MEMBER ON ACTIVE OR RESERVE DUTY.
STARTING THIS YEAR, THE HANCOCK AWARDS ARE CO-SPONSORED BY THE WOMEN
OFFICERS PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION AND THE MILITARY OFFICERS
ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA.
2.  THERE ARE TWO AWARD CATEGORIES - O5 AND BELOW, AND NAVY E7
THROUGH E9/MARINE CORPS E6 THROUGH E9.  CRITERIA FOR BOTH AWARDS ARE
THE SAME.  NOMINEES SHOULD BE MATURE LEADERS WHO HAVE SHOWN
EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP OVER TIME, PERSEVERED TO OVERCOME CHALLENGES
WHILE SERVING, AND HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT
AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN IN THE NAVY AND MARINE CORPS.
NOMINEES SHOULD HAVE ALSO MADE SIGNIFICANT, LASTING DECISIONS THAT
RESULTED IN IMPROVED WORKING CONDITIONS AND QUALITY OF LIFE FOR
THEIR PEERS AND SUBORDINATES, AS WELL AS THE NAVY AND MARINE CORPS
AS A WHOLE.
3.  ACTIVE DUTY AND RESERVE NAVY AND MARINE CORPS OFFICERS AND
SENIOR ENLISTED MAY BE NOMINATED BY THEIR COMMANDING OFFICERS,
OFFICERS IN CHARGE, OR PEERS.  NOMINATIONS SHOULD NOT EXCEED 2
PAGES IN LENGTH, AND SHOULD ADDRESS THE NOMINEE'S PROFESSIONAL
ACCOMPLISHMENTS, LEADERSHIP STYLE, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
THE NOMINEE'S BIOGRAPHY SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE NOMINATION LETTER.

THE ANNUAL NATIONAL WOMEN OFFICERS PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION
SYMPOSIUM SCHEDULED FOR 12 - 13 JULY 2005 AT THE NATIONAL DEFENSE
UNIVERSITY, MILITARY DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON, FORT MCNAIR.  THE NAMES
OF THE WINNERS WILL ALSO BE POSTED AFTER THE SYMPOSIUM AT
