RMKS/1. IN SUPPORT OF THE PROFESSIONAL MILITARY EDUCATION (PME)
CONTINUUM ANNOUNCED BY REF A, AND IN ORDER TO INCREASE GRADUATE
EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR UNRESTRICTED LINE OFFICERS, THE
WASHINGTON, DC INTERN PROGRAM HAS BEEN RESTRUCTURED AND REPLACED BY
A PROGRAM THAT WILL TRIPLE GRADUATE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES.
2. THE WASHINGTON, DC INTERN PROGRAM HAS ANNUALLY PROVIDED 15
MASTER’S DEGREES IN ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT FROM GEORGE
WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN CONJUNCTION WITH INTERNSHIPS SERVED ON
CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS, OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE AND
JOINT STAFFS. THE PROGRAM SUCCESSOR WILL PROVIDE QUOTAS FOR
APPROXIMATELY 45 MASTER’S DEGREES IN SYSTEMS ENGINEERING AND
ANALYSIS OR SIMILAR ANALYTICALLY BASED PROGRAMS, THROUGH
PARTNERSHIPS WITH NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL AND LOCAL UNIVERSITIES.
THE COURSES WILL BE OFFERED THROUGH A VARIETY OF DELIVERY METHODS
SUCH AS WEB-ENABLED, VIDEO TELE-EDUCATION, AND LOCAL CLASSROOM
COURSES AND WILL INCLUDE BOTH ON- AND OFF-DUTY OPPORTUNITIES. IN
ADDITION, THIS PROGRAM WILL BE EXPANDED BEYOND WASHINGTON, DC
STAFFS TO OTHER NAVY FLAG STAFFS IN FLEET CONCENTRATION AREAS.
