RMKS/1. IT IS WITH DEEP SADNESS THAT I REPORT THE PASSING OF REAR ADMIRAL 
RALPH L. TINDAL, USN(RET) ON 2 AUGUST 2012.
COMMISSIONED IN 1961 AS AN NROTC GRADUATE OF PENN STATE UNIVERSITY, REAR 
ADMIRAL TINDAL SERVED 34 YEARS AS AN ACCOMPLISHED SUBMARINER.
SELECTED FOR THE NUCLEAR POWER PROGRAM DURING HIS INITIAL TOUR ON USS LEARY 
(DD 879), HIS NUMEROUS SEA TOURS INCLUDED COMMAND OF USS DACE (SSN 607) AND 
THE FIRST COMMANDING OFFICER OF USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730). AS A FLAG 
OFFICER, REAR ADMIRAL TINDAL SERVED AS ASSISTANT CHIEF OF STAFF FOR LOGISTICS, 
SOUTHERN EUROPE, AND DIRECTOR, OPERATIONS AND LOGISTICS(J3/J4), U.S. STRATEGIC 
COMMAND.

2. AFTER RETIREMENT, REAR ADMIRAL TINDAL WORKED FOR THE SYSTEMS PLANNING AND 
ANALYSIS COMPANY WHERE HE CONTRIBUTED TO MILITARY POLICY AND NATIONAL 
SECURITY.  FOR OVER 15 YEARS, HE PROVIDED SOUND ANALYSIS AND ADVICE TO 
GOVERNMENTAL DECISION MAKERS HELPING OUR MILITARY PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE.

3. REAR ADMIRAL TINDAL IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE SALLY, THREE SONS, AND SEVEN 
GRANDCHILDREN.  HE WAS A REMARKABLE SHIPMATE WHO DEDICATED HIS LIFE TO OUR 
NAVY AND HIS COUNTRY AND WILL BE MISSED.
